Emily Walter
My Story
Emily Walter is a versatile dancer specializing in modern and contemporary
dance. Emily is currently dancing with an international touring company,
Khambatta Dance Company. Other mentionable works Emily has performed
include Martha Graham's "Diversion of Angels," a 19-minute. version of
“Citizen” by Yin Yue, and “Drive” choreographed by Kyle Abraham.
Emily Walter grew up in Olympia, Washington, where she focused on her
ballet training under the direction of Xijun Fu, Ken Johnson, and Josie Johnson.
She first discovered her passion for contemporary dance after attending
her dance studio's summer intensive. That following year, she trained under
Iyun Ashani in Horton Technique. Rachael Parnell continued exposing her to
contemporary dance throughout high school while attending summer
programs at ABT South Carolina and Joffrey San Francisco.
Emily did a dual program in high school for college credit and graduated high
school simultaneously with an Associate in Arts from South Puget Sound Community
College. Upon Graduation, she moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she continued
her education and dance training at Point Park University. Receiving a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts
in Dance with a modern focus, Emily has trained under Jason McDole, Garfield Lemonius,
Judith Leifer-Bentz, Slow Danger, Marc Spaulding, and Pearlann Porter. Emily has spent summers at
Hubbard Street Dance Summer Intensive and Northwest Dance Project Summer Intensive.
Emily has a passion for teaching and has taught intermediate and advanced level Ballet at Johansen Olympia Dance Center, as well as contemporary/modern and jazz to all ages and levels. Emily has experience backstage as the Assistant Director for the 2023 Olympia Dance Festival.
Outside of dance, Emily finds interest in other artistic outlets such as drawing, painting, and photography. Emily finds solace in nature and enjoys camping and outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and watersports. More than anything, Emily loves her family.
